As I mentioned a few weeks ago, for the past two years one of the AVN awards handed out has been “Best Retail Website - Rentals.” In both 2006 and 2007 the winner of the award was Wanted List. The nominees for 2008 were:

Did Wanted List retain its title as the king of the adult online DVD rental industry? No!

Congratulations to SugarDVD who took the crown for the first time! You can read my thoughts on the service on the relevant post, but SugarDVD is definitely a worthy winner. In addition to offering a nice selection of rental plans starting at $9.95, their Video on Demand offerings are substantial. If you are interested in it, you can sign up for a free 15 minute trial.

With AVN Awards set to go on tonight, I will give you my brief thoughts on Blue Door, the final company nominated for the top prize in the adult online dvd rental industry.

Blue door may very well have the largest selection in the industry. The company boasts that it has over 54,000 titles available. There is also a substantial VOD offering which utilizes a pay per minute system. The price varies from about 10 cents - 30 cents per minute depending on the amount of time that you purchase.

Monthly membership rental plans are detailed below.

• Silver Membership - 2 DVDs out at a time for $20.95/month
• Gold Membership - 3 DVDs out at a time for $26.95/month
• Platinum Membership - 4 DVDs out at a time for $30.95/month
• Emerald Membership - 6 DVDs out at a time for $42.95/month
• Diamond Membership - 8 DVDs out at a time for $57.95/month

Blue Door also offers 20 business day individual rentals that start as low as $1.99. This does not include the shipping cost (unlike the monthly plans that have free shipping). The cheapest option here is USPS First Class Mail. The price is $4.00 for 1-3 items or $6.00 for 4-6 items.

Blue Door is located in beautiful Warrendale, PA. I have never heard of it either. The Company provides a handy graphic that estimates shipping times to locations in the United States.

XRentDVD is a huge site with over 36,000 DVDs available. The interface is as good as any and offers high quality box art for members. Each title’s page displays which of the four service options are available for its customers.

As I mentioned above, XRentDVD offers four different services to its customers. Their Preferred program is the classic Netflix for porn option. The summary of their plans is listed below:

The Company appears to have only one shipping location in Orange County, CA.

XRentDVD also offers a weekly rental option. Online adult DVD rental prices start at $1.99 per title per week. Prices are shown on each title page. There is no minimum for adult DVD rental orders, but there is a 10 rental disc maximum per order.

The other two options that XRentDVD offers are buy new and buy used. Prices obviously vary by title and displayed on the individual title page. One nice feature of the site is that you automatically get discounts on the purchase of adult DVD movie titles you have rented within the past 30 days.

As we count down to the AVN Awards, I will give you my thoughts on GoFlix. With over 30,000 titles you will have plenty of selection at GoFlix. The site also offers Video on Demand (VOD) and purchase options. There is nice selection of plans available to suit all appetites. Note that the annual options offer a significant discount to their monthly counterparts and a free DVD.

There is certainly a fair amount of standardization in the layouts across all of the different adult online dvd rental sites. GoFlix stays true to this form of browsing by studio and genre. GoFlix succeeds at integrating its VOD and purchase options into the screen as you browse the movies. The estimated wait time for each title is a nice touch and gives you an idea when a title will be available for rental. The image below shows this off. Notice the VOD option is in red for titles that support this feature. Good quality front and back box covers are available in pop-up format.

The stated goal of GoFlix is to get your DVDs to you in 1 to 3 days. They do not state where they ship from or how many shipping centers they maintain. However they do have multiple shipping centers. Although I can’t 100% confirm this yet, I believe one of their centers is in Durham, NC. This is a nice change from the typical shipment locations in southern California.

Although GoFlix may not be as well known as others, it has been around since 2003 and I am impressed with their selection and website. GoFlix is owned by Metro Interactive, which produces and distributes adult films and videos across the globe. Let me know any experiences you have had with them in the comments.

If you aren’t familiar with the AVN Awards, they are best described as the Oscars of the adult entertainment industry. 2008 is the 25th anniversary of the AVN Awards and it is scheduled for January 12 at the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas. Tickets are still available if you are interested in attending.

Nothing says “merry Christmas” like a subscription to an online DVD rental service that offers a wide selection of porn movies. Ladies, think how happy your man would be if you surprised him with a full year of access to all the porn his heart desires! OK guys, I tried. On to my review of BushDVD.com.

The first thing to note about BushDVD.com is that it not only offers an unlimited rental options like the other services that I have discussed, but it also offers a weekly rental option. If you are hosting a wild swingers party or just not committed enough to sign up for a month of a service, this could be a great alternative for you. Your rentals will arrive in 2-5 days and you will have 7 days to view your rentals. At this point you simply return them by mail on or before the Return-By-Date printed on the mailer.

There are four rental prices for the weekly adult DVD rentals. Each price reflects the cost of rental per movie and includes any bonus discs associated with the title. The possible prices per title are $1.49, $1.99, $3.99, $7.99. The shipping cost is a flat rate of $2.99 no matter how many DVDs are in your order. All orders $15.00 or more receive free shipping. Everything is shipped with USPS First-Class Mail.

Of course, BushDVD.com also offers unlimited rental plans that have no shipping charges. There is also a 14 day free trial available on the 2 movies at a time plan. The plans are outlined below:

The Company has a big selection of movies available including over 10,000 titles available at the weekly $1.49 price point. In total over 24,000 titles are available. The site is comfortable to navigate and offers the familiar drop down boxes to browse by Category, Studio, Performer and Director. 2 different quality (based on connection speed) box art images are viewable for each movie.

BushDVD ships its movies from San Diego, CA. Although this may create shipping times of up to 5 days for people on the East Coast, RapidReturn ensures a 2 day return delivery.

Overall BushDVD is a very attractive option with its weekly rental option and deep selection of movies. The only drawbacks to site relative to the competition are the lack of multiple shipping centers and no VOD available at this time.

The Company also prides itself on customer service. It proudly displays a phone number to contact them on its front page. You don’t see Netflix doing this, do you?
